Nitrile rubber is known for excellent resistance to petroleum oils, mineral oils, vegetable oils, abrasion, many acids, and water. Also called NBR rubber, or nitrile butadiene rubber, Buna N, and Perbunan, nitrile is primarily specified where oil resistance is required.
Nitrile butadiene rubber has good elongation properties, strong compression set resistance, resilience, and tensile strength. NBR applications include automotive and aeronautical fuel, hydraulic and oil hoses, seals, and grommets. Nitrile butadiene is also used to create oil and gas exploration and recovery parts, molded goods, footwear, printing rollers, cable jacketing, and non-latex gloves.
